A Journal

"I'm going to come back to West Virginia when this is over. There's something ancient and deeply-rooted in my soul. I like to think that I have left my ghost up one of those hollows, and I'll never really be able to leave for good until I find it. And I don't want to look for it, because I might find it and have to leave".----Breece D'J Pancake, in a letter to his mother.

I Am Choking to Death & the Moon Says I Love You

I  feel  a  joke  coming on  but write a poem  called  I  Am Choking to Death  & the Moon Says I Love
You
instead.  Instead of  The Moon Says I Love   You  I name my  first  born The Fat Man  in  Drag   &
can’t decide between the chicken or the fish. I want my life to mean something. I want my poems
to be more than  just  beautiful kitsch but the figure  all in  shadow is walking away from me even
now, having washed his hands of me, & I still can’t decide between the chicken or the fish.

My favorite souvenir is a letter I receieved from Mark Strand in reply to one I sent him. It was personal & chummy & I cherish it. Thank you Mark Strand.
